How to use the dmesg command in Linux?

In Linux, the dmesg command is used to print messages from the kernel ring buffer. Here is how to use the dmesg command:

  1. Open the terminal.
  2. Enter the following command and press the Enter key:
  3. Display message buffer
  4. The terminal will display messages from the kernel ring buffer.
  5. If the output is too long to display all at once, you can use the following command to display it in pages:
  6. View the system log with pagination.
  7. Browse through messages using the up and down arrow keys, and press the “q” key to exit.
  8. You can use the following command to save the dmesg output to a file:
  9. Save the output of the dmesg command to a file named filename.txt.
  10. Save the output of dmesg to a file named filename.txt.

Please note that the dmesg command typically requires root permission to access the complete kernel ring buffer. If run as a regular user, you may only be able to see partial messages.
