The MySQL Federated engine is a storage engine in the MySQL database that allows users to create a connection to tables on another MySQL server from one MySQL server. Its purpose is to enable users to access data from one database server on another, thereby achieving the functionality of a distributed database.<\/p>\n

By using MySQL Federated, it is possible to create a local table on one database server that actually retrieves data from a table on a remote server. This allows users to access data from the remote server through querying the local table, making it as simple and convenient as accessing a local table.<\/p>\n

The primary advantages of the MySQL Federated engine are:<\/p>\n
