Linux Dump Command: Full Backups Guide

In Linux, the dump command is used to back up the file system. The basic syntax is as follows:

dump [options] [level] [file]

Some commonly used options include:

  1. – 0: Specify backup level as level 0, which is a full backup.
  2. Force the upgrade of the file system snapshot.
  3. -f: Specify the output path for the backup file.

You can use the following command to create a full backup of a file system.

dump -0uf /media/backup/dumpfile /dev/sda1

This will create a backup file named dumpfile which contains the full backup data of the /dev/sda1 filesystem.
