Ubuntu System Processes: View & Manage Guide

There are several ways to view and manage system processes in Ubuntu.

  1. Utilize system monitoring tools: Ubuntu comes with a system monitoring tool that can be opened with the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Alt + Del, or by entering gnome-system-monitor in the terminal.
  2. Use the top command: By entering the top command in the terminal, you can view the processes currently running in the system and their resource usage. You can switch between displaying different process information by pressing the number keys 1, 2, 3, etc.
  3. The ps command can be used to list the processes of the current user by entering the ps command in the terminal. You can use the ps aux command to view the process list of all users.
  4. To utilize the htop command: htop is an enhanced version of the top command, with more powerful features and a more user-friendly interface. You can type htop in the terminal to view system processes.
  5. With the kill command, you can terminate a specific process by first using the ps or htop command to find the process’s PID, and then using the kill -9 PID command to forcefully terminate it.

With the above method, it is easy to view and manage processes in the Ubuntu system.
