How to partition drives in Windows?

In Windows operating system, you can use the Disk Management tool to partition hard drives. The following are the steps for partitioning.

  1. Open the Disk Management tool: You can open the Disk Management application by typing “Disk Management” in the Windows search bar.
  2. Choose the hard drive you want to partition: On the Disk Management interface, all connected hard drives on the computer will be displayed. Select the hard drive you want to partition.
  3. Shrink Volume: If the hard drive has already been partitioned, you can first select the volume you want to shrink. Right-click on the partition and choose “Shrink Volume”.
  4. Enter the reduced size: In the pop-up dialog box, enter the size (in MB) you want to reduce. You can see the available space and total space information. Click the “Reduce” button.
  5. Create a new volume: After shrinking the volume, there will be some unallocated space. Right-click on the unallocated space and select “Create Simple Volume”.
  6. Utilize the New Volume Wizard: With the New Simple Volume Wizard, you can customize the size, file system, and drive letter of the new partition as needed.
  7. Assigning drive letter and file system: In the process of assigning drive letter and file system to the new partition, you can choose an available drive letter and file system type.
  8. Finish Partitioning: After completing the setup of the new partition, click the “Finish” button. The new partition will be created and displayed on the disk management interface.

Note: Before performing any partition operation, please backup important data to prevent data loss in case of errors during the partitioning process.
