How to handle CentOS without the yum command?
If the yum command is not available on a CentOS system, it may be because the yum package manager is not correctly installed on the system. You can address this issue by following these steps:
- Check if the yum package manager is installed. Run the following command to verify:
- Check the version of yum by using the rpm command.
- If yum is not installed, you can skip to step 3.
- If yum is installed but not working, it may be due to a corrupted or missing yum configuration file. You can try repairing it.
- First, back up the original yum configuration file:
- Make a backup of the /etc/yum.conf file by renaming it to /etc/yum.conf.bak.
- Download a new yum configuration file from the official CentOS repository.
- Download the yum-3.4.3-168.el7.centos.noarch.rpm package from the CentOS 7 repository using the wget command.
- Install the new yum configuration file.
- Install the yum version 3.4.3-168.el7.centos.noarch rpm package using the rpm command.
- After rebooting the system, try running the yum command.
- If the yum package manager is not installed, you can attempt to reinstall it.
- Firstly, install the epel software repository by using the following command:
- Install the epel-release package using yum.
- Then use the following command to install the yum package manager:
- install yum using yum
- After rebooting the system, attempt to run the yum command.
If the above methods still cannot solve the problem, it may be necessary to consider reinstalling the CentOS system or contacting the system administrator or technical support for further troubleshooting.
