Open CentOS Command Line: Quick Methods
There are several ways to access the command line interface of CentOS.
- Open the terminal in the CentOS graphical interface by clicking on the “Applications” menu at the top left of the desktop, then navigating to either “System Tools” or “Utilities” to find the option for “Terminal” or “Command Line Terminal,” and clicking to open the terminal.
- Pressing the Ctrl+Alt+T key combination will directly open the terminal using shortcut keys.
- Switch to command-line mode: If you are using the graphical interface of CentOS, you can press the combination of Ctrl+Alt+F2 (or F3, F4, F5, etc.) to switch to a new virtual terminal, then enter your username and password to log in.
- Note: After switching to command line mode, you can use Ctrl+Alt+F1 to return to the graphical interface.
- You can remotely connect to the CentOS server’s command line interface using SSH tools like PuTTY on another computer.
